Our story
A kitchen, a garden,
and a bay tree
Defne Botanicals began with leftover tomatoes, a bar of soap that refused to be boring, and a tree named in Turkish for victory and stew pots alike.
What we believe
Industrial food and body care optimize for speed and shelf life. We optimize for flavor, skin feel, and the quiet satisfaction of doing something properly.
Our soaps are cold-processed and cured for weeks. Our pastes cook low and slow until the water leaves and the character stays. Our seeds come from plants we grow, taste, and save — not from a catalog of hybrids designed for shipping trucks.
We are small on purpose. Small batches mean we can still smell every oil, taste every jar, and know which summer a tomato variety tasted best.
The name
Defne is Turkish for bay laurel. A leaf for the kitchen, a crown for poets, a tree of resilience in Mediterranean courtyards.
The method
Patience over shortcuts. Olive oil over mineral oil. Open-pollinated seeds over disposable hybrids.
The promise
No synthetic fragrance. Transparent ingredients. Goods you would hand to a neighbor without explanation.
